Have you ever felt like you need a little space? A little crafting time? A gossip? All these are part of Project Den.
Come and join me to create a space by building a mobile den, co-created by anyone (individual or groups) who enjoys crafting and gives everyone the chance to be part of a bigger ongoing project. Use your finger-knitting skills, or come and learn the art of finger knitting.
This work has developed as part of my research over the past year at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. It is intended to provoke and explore responses and emotions in both viewers and participants. I want it to develop a narrative of collaboration, conversation, participation and a shared love of making.
The work has just been presented as part of the Masters Show 2016 and as it is an ongoing project it was presented as a work in progress rather than a fully developed den. The vibrantly coloured knitted strands are suspended from a simple wooden frame and the combined structure hints at the feeling of protection, privacy and playfulness that childhood dens can give.
The den is based at Dundee University at the moment but will be travelling to various places around Dundee and Perth over the next few months, starting with my studio for Perthshire Open Studios 3-11 September 2016.
